| I am an interior designer, and an artist. I have worked in and around the interior design trade for more than 30 years, training from the age of 18 with a well know classical company, in the UK and France, this culminating in independent consultancy. I now work between various project sites and my painting and design studio in the West of Scotland, which is a lifestyle choice that allows full expression of my design and art influences. My interior design work is rooted in a 3-dimensional creativity and in wanting to help people shape their surroundings into a springboard for their lives. Whether it is for home, for work, or for asset management, most people are too busy to handle the design, specification and buying successfully themselves. There is an overwhelming abundance of choice on the market and each must be considered for every practical and aesthetic value. Even small errors of judgement can be expensive. To achieve suitability with good looks, and also to balance price and quality on each issue, requires knowledge, experience, and a particular skill set. My service: Design Architectural spaces, furnishing layouts, electrical layouts, lighting, heating plans, bathrooms, utility areas, and adjacent outside spaces. Decoration Architectural detail, decorative finishes, furnishings and fittings and the finishes of these, floor finishes, light fittings, heating fittings, bathroom fittings, exterior fittings and furniture, Artworks & Collections. Supply To order, and to co-ordinate delivery and installation of all of the above. Site I don’t offer full project management, but can liaise with trades and attend the project site to be sure that the design is carried out as specified, and discuss and agree the clarifications and variations that will be necessary for site conditions. I have a broader range than many interior designers. My visual skills combined with a practical attitude, and my experience, and knowledge of the market, mean that I can offer assured advice; in particular I am able to tailor the critical balance of cost and value for each client. Interaction with trades, and clear specification, achieves a smoother running project and cost savings. I don’t need to be dictatorial about taste because I work happily in a range of styles and types of project. Fees. Each of the 4 areas of the work can be priced individually or grouped. Fees can be at a fixed hourly rate or a percentage of costs. Each project is looked at as a whole. Savings can be made within industry price structures – e.g. all the Supply Service may be made at retail prices for no further fee beyond the trade discounts allowed. All fees are agreed in writing before any are incurred. Preliminary discussions are offered without charge. |
